Holy Mackerel

When Cherie Spraker sets her sights on a trophy fish she goes big...and after 2 days in a row of fishing bliss, I can say that we sent the Sprakers back to New York with lots of big memories, and plans to do it again...soon!

Once again Jawbreaker fishing charters welcomed back some familiar faces, Gary and Cherie Spraker, for a couple of back-to-back half day fishing trips on beautiful St.Pete Beach. A very persistent Northeast wind in the 15-20 knot range kept us close to the beach each day but that didn't cause any worries for the Jawbreaker fishing team, and besides, everything the Sprakers wanted can be found very close to home...if you know where to look!

Day one was all about trolling for giant Spanish mackerel and hunting down a shark or two, the latter being a 'bucket list' wish. Well, how about non-stop Spanish mackerels in the 3-5 pound range coming over the sides as if we were commercial fishing. I'm serious, there were no small macks in the mix either, some were even well over 5 pounds. We trolled both hardware and live threadfins and literally left the fish biting in search of the 'man in the grey suit'. And the Sprakers were blessed with not just 1 or 2, but 3 Sharks were fooled into our chumline and a 'bucket list' wish was granted!

Day two was all about catching the King, and we weren't looking for just any King fish...no siree! I was determined to show these good people what Brad and I do best, and we weren't settling for anything less than a true 'smoker'. Trolling live threadies along the swim bouys off Blind Pass was the key, and although there have been no reports of big Kings being caught on the beach, we stuck to our game and Whammm!! Fish on!!just a stone's throw from the sand. Check out the Sprakers and 'bad' Brad with our trophy of the day. Tight work crew!

This past week Jawbreaker Fishing Charters took out 5 charters, only 1 group was new to our services..they will be back too! Call today and see for yourself why our clients keep coming back. Happy fishing folks, Capt.Dan
