Good times fishing the Gulf of Mexico

Mike and Becka Nealon know how to have a good time...take your friends fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. This was not their first fishing charter on the Jawbreaker, and it won't be their last either. These guys decided to share the experience with good friends, Anthony and Jaina from Cleveland, Ohio. And an experience is what they got!

We left Pass-a-grille on St.Pete Beach at about 9 a.m. and found the Gulf to be slightly choppy but certainly fishable. Water temps are back down in the 50's after this last cold front and I figured it would be a tough 4-hour charter to pull off with most of the Grouper out in deeper waters right now. Well, we were met by some eager fish as soon as baits hit the bottom...in 32 feet! That's right, Gag grouper are still hanging onto some of those shallow ledges found in the nearshore waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Take a look at the monster that Jaina fooled into the fish box.....just kidding! It is common knowledge that most grouper species are closed right now, until April 1st, and all groupers were released on this trip.

Even with the grouper closure, our crew was happy to put some tasty snappers in the fish box. Just for the records, there are other species besides grouper that can easily be targeted on our fishing charters. Amberjack, Snapper, Sharks, Cobia, Kingfish, Spanish mackerel...just to name a few. Give us a call and ask what's biting currently, then call your good friends and treat them to an unforgettable fishing experience on board the Jawbreaker. Happy fishing to Ya! Capt.Dan
