Fun fishing with old friends

Fishing this past Friday was all about battling the post full moon effect. Three days after the full moon left the fish bloated from several days/nights of clear skies and mellow seas. Most of the fish we target like Grouper and Snapper feed heavily on and near the brightness of the full moon phase...especially at night! This can sometimes be a real challenge and moving around from spot to spot, until you find the hungry ones, is all one can do....and that's what we did.

I had been looking forward to this trip as we were hosting friend, fishing buddy and past fellow employee Pavol Malek, his brother-in-law Radek and Advance Tool Company neighbor, Mario. These guys were ready for action and Radek even traveled all the way from the Czech Republic to experience the wonders of the Gulf of Mexico. After loading up with livies from a nearby grass flat we were on our way to throw an offshore party.

Reaching 65 feet of water there seemed to be enough bird activity to give it a try for the Kingfish. Thinking that the warm Winter, and waters that never got below 65 degrees, might give up a surprise King, but we tried to no avail- anchoring up in the same locale produced Grouper, Snapper and big Porgies...right off the bat! As the tidal current picked up though, the fish bite slowed. These lazy little buggers were not willing to work and live bait was out of the question....for the most part. Check out Mario with a decent Gag Grouper that Was willing to chase down a pinfish. Tight work Mario, oh, and nice shirt. Anyway, this went on until there was more than enough very large Grey snapper and Porgies to satisfy the boys dinner plans, and Radek caught the bonus Scamp Grouper that went 18 inches! Yipee!!..

Jawbreaker fishing folks, come check it out! As Spring approaches the options become endless. Once the Gulf reaches that magical 70 degree mark, it is game on! Kingfish, Cobia, Jacks, Macks, Barracuda and the list goes on. Call today and book some magic for yourself! Happy fishing, Capt.Dan
