From Ecuador with love

Summertime conditions are in full effect and the typical weather forecast is light winds, calm seas and hot, hot, hot! Luckily the fishing has been hot, hot, hot too!!...My new buddy, Paul, treated his family to an active day of fishing on the Jawbreaker, and things went well.

I could not resist the flock of seagulls that lured us into a Spanish mackerel frenzy before we could even get 2 miles offshore. Well, having a couple of youngsters on the boat gave up the opportunity to do a little trolling for some fish that the little ones could handle. What better way to get things rolling, and in the first hour of our trip we were putting some color in the cooler. Spanish mackerel in the 3-5 pound range were schooling so thick you could walk on them.Young Joaquin and Pau were on top of the world reeling in fish after fish, and something tells me they could have done this all day long, but, we needed to move on. A few Grouper in the box would really make for a well rounded 4-hour charter...and some good vittles!

Anchoring up in 35 feet of water was all it took. Live Pinfish, grunts, pigfish and the usual mix of cut Sardines and Squid got the Groupers going....right into the fishbox. Although we had a dozen fish break us off, this crew did manage a few bad boys into the box for a guaranteed fresh fish dinner. Check out Patty and young Joaquin with their first-ever Gag Grouper...way to go J-dog! A few more Gags for the ride home, and a doormat Flounder for the bonus fish...perfect!

Thanks again to Paul and his family of Patricio, Fernando, Patty, Jaoquin and Pau for coming all the way from Ecuador to fish with the Jawbreaker. You guys are golden! Happy fishing folks, Capt.Dan
