Fishing from the Merry Pier on Pass a Grille

The fishing was great but the seas were big. That has been the theme around here the last couple of weeks. Saturday's fishing charter was a 2-boat corporate trip out of the Merry Pier in Pass-a-Grille Pass, St.Pete beach, Fl. We headed out at 7am to an offshore breeze blowing around 17 knots. Of course our crew did not care, they were ready for some deep sea fishing action!

We started in the 50ft. range on a tip from another charter boat guide in the Tampa area that had been doing good with the Gag groupers in this depth. They were there and ready to eat. My crew was not as ready as the fish were...I think Tom and I tied about 20 leaders on the first spot. Break off after break off. I even landed a grouper with 2 leaders in his mouth, that dude was hungry! Well, sort of the typical fishing trip in the Gulf of Mexico...Grouper, snapper, kingfish, porgies, triggerfish, etc.

We did some trolling and there are some Kingfish still roaming around. I have been told that the Sand Key hard bottom just off Clearwater beach was a feeding frenzy this weekend. Lots of boats and lots of Kingfish being caught by all, wish we were there. We have had big success fishing the Clearwater hard bottom over the years with many tournament Kingfish coming from this area.

Well, you can't be in two places at one time, but you can make the best of where you are at the time. Jawbreaker fishing charters does just that...everytime! Call us today and book your summer fishing trip in Tampa Bay and St.Petersburg beach. Happy fishing to ya! Capt.Dan
