First time fishing offshore Tampa

People come from all over the country, and the world, to go fishing offshore from Tampa Bay and St.Petersburg. Mary Ann came from Kentucky with husband Tommy, and their kids Leslie, Davis and Jannie, to do some sportfishing with Jawbreaker fishing charters. The weather was warm and the fish were willing on Wednesday's fishing charter.

We did our usual rounds to the local reefs and wrecks that have been holding Kingfish and Spanish mackerel pretty consistently. For some reason, the bird activity and the baitfish that have been present for the last couple of months were gone. We trolled for 30 minutes with only a few short strikes and missed fish, except for this Jack Crevalle that was willing to take our offering. Take a look at Mary Ann and Davis with their first fish of the day.

Trolling was slow and painful so we decided to anchor on a ledge and do some bottom-fishing for Grouper and Snapper. With water temps in the high 80's it has been a challenge to find any keeper grouper in the shallow depths that we usually fish on a 4-hour fishing charter, and today was no different. We lost one big fish to a rod that was placed in the rod holder and forgotten. And of course, the usual break-offs that occur when charter fishing. At least the snapper were cooperative, and the Triggerfish, Porgies and short Red and Gag grouper.

Our new friends had a great time and went home with the makings for a decent fish-fry, and a few memories of their Florida summer vacation. Take your family to St.Pete beach, Florida for your next summer vacation and book a fishing charter with the Jawbreaker. We are sure to send you home great memories of spending quality time with your family, oh...and the makings for your own fish-fry. Happy fishing to Ya! Capt. Dan
