Trolling the Gulf of Mexico

Trolling in the Gulf of Mexico for Spanish mackerel is at it's best. The bait pods are everywhere, nearshore and offshore from St.Pete beach, and so are the fish. Using planers and spoons to trick these guys into the fish box is all it takes, especially if you want to cover lots of area. Oh, Spanish mackerel are not the only fish biting on our lures. Check out Abby with her first saltwater species, a nice Bonito!

Like I said, covering lots of fishing area is the key, and the beaches off St.Pete, Clearwater and John's Pass are a sure thing. There have been fishing reports of Kings and Spanish being caught right in the channel leading out of John's Pass. Weeding thru the little guys will take patience. Moving around and working different bait pods will eventually produce some larger fish. Fishing along the beaches is perfect for those with smaller boats. You do not need to go far from shore to get in on the fishing action.

If you are itching to go fishing for some Spanish mackerel, Kingfish, Bonitos and even Barracudas...now is the time. Summer is upon us and the weather is hot. Trolling keeps the air moving and the fishermen cool. Call Jawbreaker fishing charters, on beautiful St.Petersburg beach, and get out there and troll up the makings for a summer time fish-fry. Happy fishing to ya, Capt.Dan
