Tampa Grouper fishing stays shallow

Grouper fishing charters in the Tampa Bay area remain productive. Of course we are releasing these big boys, due to the closure, until April 1. After that it is game on! With winter-like temperatures still looming in the Tampa Bay area, our Grouper fishing charters have not seen any lull in the action. We have been consistently catching and releasing nice Gag grouper, Red grouper and Scamp in depths as shallow as 35 ft.

The Keegans caught this big Gag(pictured above) on a small ledge in 45 ft. just 10 miles west of Pass-a-grille, St.Pete beach in the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. This was their first charter fishing trip in the Tampa, St.pete area and they were rewarded with plenty of action. Everyone on board this charter boat caught big fish.

The grunts were on fire as well. Where there are groupers there are sure to be grunts. These little guys can add up quick and make superb table fare. Using a light spinning combo and a 2-hook chicken-rig, with little cuts of squid for bait, we have been having a blast catching 2 fish at a time. Even the grouper will take these tiny offerings and then you have a real battle, on light tackle.

The water temp is slowly rising and the Mackerel, both Kingfish and Spanish mackerel, will be showing up very soon. Even with the cold temps we are starting to see the birds offshore searching for food. This is always a good sign of things to come.

We are already getting the Kingfishing gear in order and booking trips for what I consider to be the best months Florida fishing has to offer. Some of our best fishing charters happen this time of year as we can target Kingfish, Grouper, Snapper, Sharks and more...on the same charter fishing trip! Call Jawbreaker Fishing Charters Inc. Today! Get in the book and come enjoy a day of fishing on one of our Tampa Bay fishing charters. Call now. Until then happy fishing to ya, Capt. Dan Barry
