More Grouper action near St.Pete beach

Grouper fishing just 6 miles west of St.Pete beach is typical...in January! Monday's 4-hour afternoon fishing charter went well, with plenty of fish coming over the rail for these guys. This was a corporate fishing trip out of Tampa and these guys were a bit laid back, just wanting to relax and take a boat ride. Well, we knew right where to take them for a little R&R and R...reel reel reel!!!..

We anchored up on a rock ledge in 34 feet of water and the tide was ripping. So much that we swung off the spot I was intending to fish. The bottom looked good so we fished it. The bite was hot. The baits were not even hitting bottom before the grouper were attacking. Gary boated a pair of keeper size Gag grouper and we moved on to another spot.

Especially when the bite is this good, we do not take more than 2 or 3 fish from one spot. This will help the underwater community keep a nice balance. Some fish will reside all year and never move from a particular spot. They will attract fish of a similar size as other fish migrate. If all big fish are harvested from one spot it is likely to take years for that spot to generate big fish again...it is called "burning up" a spot, and we do not do it!

Well, we hit another spot and the bite was the same. We had to measure every other fish with allot just undersize by a half inch. Eric and Fraise each managed to put a keeper in the fish box and we were on our way back to St.Pete beach to clean some grouper. Check out the boys with their new friends(from the left Eric, Gary and Fraise) back at the dock. If you have an upcoming corporate event or just want to relax like these guys, call Jawbreaker fishing charters. We can accomodate almost any request. Happy fishing to ya, Capt. Dan
