Light tackle sport fishing in the Gulf of Mexico

If you have been thinking about booking a professional sport fishing charter...now is the time! Tampa Bay and the St.Pete Beach region is still experiencing a strong Pelagic bite. Kingfish, Barracuda, Bonito, Amberjack and lots of big sharks are working offshore and nearshore bait schools with real aggression. Not all of the above mentioned are considered Pelagic, but they will still rip your arms off! Just ask TJ Kendall, check him out with one of the many 'smoker' Kingfish caught on Saturday's fishing charter out of Pass-a-grille, on St.Pete Beach, Florida.

Both nearshore and offshore wrecks are holding many of these summertime favorites as well. After putting a few Kings in the box, working bait schools, we took a little ride out to the 10 Fathom Wreck. This place is usually a parking lot on the weekend, but we had it all to ourselves...for a little while anyway. There were literally hundreds of Barracuda stacked up on top of the wreck, and getting them to bite was very easy. Besides eating the baits that we presented, the cudas were having their way with almost every fish we hooked in to...if the Bull sharks didn't beat them to it! Very exciting stuff!

At one point, we deployed some light spinning gear into the mix and had a blast with the Bonitos and Kingfish. This was Todd's idea to bring along the really light stuff, and it worked out quite well. Catching a10 pound Bonito on 10 pound test line....now that is sport fishing folks. Maybe we should try 8 pound next. Undoubtedly a challenge, but well worth it...light tackle sportfishing in the Gulf of Mexico. Call Jawbreaker fishing charters today and see what it's all about. Happy fishing, Capt.Dan
