King mackerel fishing out of Johns Pass

What a way to end a 4-hour fishing charter out of John's Pass fishing village on Madeira beach, Florida. This beautiful Kingfish ate a large blue runner at about 4pm on Saturday. And Angie Mongello handled the situation like a pro! After a 15 minute battle, she brought our first "smoker" Kingfish of the season  to the gaff. (Pictured above, from left to right) Angie, Chris, Diane and Louie from Long Island, New York on board the Jawbreaker fishing vessel.

With the water temperature right at 72 degrees, the King mackerel and Spanish mackerel are starting to make a strong showing. Although we have been catching some very impressive Spanish mackerel in Tampa Bay, the Kings have been small and few. Now that we are seeing them show up on the beaches, it should mean a couple of months of line-screaming Kingfish action all around the Tampa/St.Pete area. With Kingfish come tournaments. These Kingfishing tournaments will mean allot more boats on the water, and the need to be courteous to fellow fisherman and other boaters alike.

Whether you are a first-timer or a seasoned pro, this is the time to make the time to get out there and catch the King! Also, be sure to have a special rig set up for the curious Cobia, especially when bottom fishing in the Gulf of Mexico this time of year. The next few months should bring many big surprises for the active and prepared angler. For guaranteed results, call Jawbreaker Fishing Charters and book a Florida fishing charter now. We know where the real "smokers" are....and how to catch them. Happy fishing to ya, Capt. Dan
