Gag Grouper rules are about to change for the Gulf

Fishing for Gag grouper in the Gulf of Mexico's federal waters is about to close. The new Gag grouper regulations are set to take effect starting January 1, 2011. A zero bag limit has been set for all recreational fishermen fishing in the federal waters of the Gulf, beyond 9 nautical miles. Our hopes are that the State of Florida will not adapt a similar law, which will then still allow for the harvesting of Gag grouper in State waters, within the 9 nautical mile mark.

With this news coming out recently, our good friends from Lenstec Corporation decided they better go get the Gags while they can. This is not John Clough's first time on board the Jawbreaker. As a matter of fact, he fishes with us about 5 or 6 times a year and always brings the luck...and skill! On this particular fishing charter, out of Pass-a-grille Pass on St.Pete Beach, we had a new friend to entertain. Check out Daniel Bregman with the big fish of the day(above)...one of those endangered Gag grouper, and a whopper at that!... Nice fish Danno!!...

With the assistance of Hayden and Herb, this crew was able to at least fool several nice Gag grouper into the fishbox. And of course, the Grey snapper have been running very large in size and numbers. Grey snapper, or as the locals call them, 'grunts' are one of the best eating fish swimming the Gulf of Mexico. With no size limit or bag limit, these little buggers have helped put the icing on the cake for many offshore fishing charters. I suppose the pressure will be on the snapper come Jan.1, 2011.

Have no fear folks, with or without new Gag grouper regulations, Jawbreaker fishing charters has the knowledge and the versatility to put or clients on the big ones. Red grouper, Snapper, Kingfish, Barracuda, Sharks, Cobia, Amberjack....I could go on and on with the list of species that we can fit into any one of our action-packed fishing charters. Visit Tampa Bay and enjoy a once in a lifetime fishing charter with Jawbreaker fishing charters. Call today! Happy fishing to ya! Capt.Dan
