Just call him the "Closer"....Dan Budde is no stranger to fishing the Tampa Bay area... Jawbreaker style! His annual fishing charter off St.Pete Beach, with son D.J., went well for him. You see, Father, Son and newcomer, Elliot, had a little bet going on, "who gets the biggest fish"? Well, I hear Dan is a betting man, and with the luck he has had lately, he won! And because he pulled it off, literally, on his last drop of the day, he earned the name...the Closer.
Dan Budde and crew have been fishing with us since we started "living the dream", fishing the offshore waters of the Gulf of Mexico for both Gag and Red Grouper. I can honestly say that we experienced one of the best, if not the best bite I have seen in some time. The Gags were on fire in the 60 foot range. Funny thing, we used nothing but cut sardines and mullet all day with at least 15-20 keeper-size Gags going back in the drink, and a few very large Red grouper as well. Of course, they put me to work on the chicken-rig and I was able to put over 30 grunts and a few Porgies in the box.
These guys are already planning next year's migration, from the cold of Illinois to the sunny beaches of Tampa Bay, to spend at least one day fishing in the beautiful Gulf of Mexico.
